They discussed critical national matters, focusing on the future of politics and governance in Nigeria
Details of their discussions remain unclear, but it is believed they may have touched on the 2027 general elections and the broader political landscape in Nigeria. Kwankwaso, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, later shared insights from the meeting in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
According to Kwankwaso, their deliberations focused on “significant national issues, including the future of politics and governance in Nigeria.” He expressed gratitude for Obasanjo’s warm hospitality and support during the visit.
“I was pleased to be in the company of my friend, His Excellency Donald Duke, and other associates to pay a courtesy call on President Olusegun Obasanjo. Deliberations on significant national issues, including the future of politics and governance in Nigeria, defined the conversation,” Kwankwaso wrote.
This is not the first time Kwankwaso and Obasanjo have engaged in such discussions. Last month, Obasanjo attended the wedding of Kwankwaso’s daughter in Kano. At the event, the former president wore a red cap, a symbol of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, and was warmly received by Kwankwaso and Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The recent meeting highlights the continued collaboration and dialogue among Nigeria’s political leaders on shaping the nation’s political future.
